Bloomberg: Apple engineer warned company of possible iPhone 4 antenna woes

July 15th, 2010

Bloomberg is reporting that “someone familiar with the matter” is claiming Apple’s very own antenna expert, Ruben Caballero, warned the company of possible flaws that could have created the issues so many of you are currently experiencing – dropped calls and reception problems.

The report also includes a separate source claiming a particular unnamed carrier also voiced it’s concern to Apple over the newly designed antenna system prior of it’s release on June 24th. This news all coming in within just one day prior to Apple’s last minute iPhone 4 press conference.

Apple has declined to comment and is refusing to grant any interviews with Ruben Caballero.

Apple addressing iPad Wi-Fi issues in software update

May 11th, 2010

Apple has updated the support document that details iPad Wi_fi connection issues, adding that a software fix is indeed in the works. Two of the main Wi-Fi issues include a weak signal and forgotten passwords.

While waiting for Apple, if you happen to be part of the “very small number” of iPad users suffering from these iPad Wi-Fi issues, you can try some of the following workarounds:

  • Update your Wi-Fi router firmware
  • Use WPA or WPA2 for your wireless security
  • Adjusting screen brightness
  • Renew your IP address

Any of these solutions work for you? Still having issues? Let us know in the comments below!

Dear Facebook — Please Fix Facebook 3.1.1 for iPhone and Soon

January 12th, 2010

facebook_error

Facebook 3.1 brought the much-in-demand push notification service to the iPhone’s most popular social networking app, but no good deed goes unpunished, and along with broken push, it also brought a host of problems. Now, not everyone is having the same problem, but a lot of you have told us about one or more of the following:

  • No push notifications: Seriously. Facebook updates their application to included push notifications and it doesn’t work most of the time.
  • No alert sound to push notifications: Is sound turned on? Yes. So where is it?
  • Commenting on photos: If you go to post a comment on a picture one of your friend’s posts you are greeted with a nice little “error” on a blank screen.
  • Force closes: Now perhaps this is just a issue I am having but it seems as if the application loves to close on it’s own since the last update. Usually this is a sign of poor memory management.

We realize Joe Hewitt leaving left you in the lurch, but come on Facebook, you have Microsoft money and one of the most consistently popular apps in the app store! A 1.0 app from a startup we understand, but 3.1 from the social networking giant? It’s never a wise idea to use the general public as your beta testers. If the application is not ready for prime time, don’t release a sub-par application. Wait. You’ll have more time and we’ll get a better app. Now that you’ve released it, however, we’re all stuck, and you need to get it fixed and yesterday.

Did we miss any other major issues going on within this application? Feel free to vent in the comments below!

Now please excuse me while I go dust off Boxcar and put it back into action…

O2 Admitting to iPhone Data Strain on Network

December 29th, 2009

antenna_pointingtoward_pokhara

The UK’s leading provider of mobile phones, O2, is openly admitting to having iPhone related network issues. It seems AT&T might not be alone after all, as O2 chief executive Ronan Dunne recently let out the secret that the last 6 months the iPhone had overwhelmed its network in London. Of course, O2 is claiming that the issues are all fixed and the network is as healthy as ever.

O2 iPhone owners have suffered through some of the same issues as some AT&T customers have experienced – dropped calls, data inconsistency, etc… So the big question is what has O2 done to solve the issue at hand? They’ve gone and spent a ton of money on the network to meet it’s demand including adding 200 additional mobile towers in the areas of need.

Any of our readers currently on the O2 network care to comment on your current service? Let us know in the comments below!
